Discussion on stereo/surround receivers and power conditioners.

I wanted to get some people's experiences with surround receivers.
I am in the market again. I've had 3 Yamaha receivers and I'm not sure whether or not to buy another one. My last one crapped out after 4 years. I've had issues with one of my other ones...but it is still serviceable as long as I don't pass the HDMI through it.
I'm having a dilemma because I don't know if it is the power in my house that's wearing out the electronics. I've heard that voltage can be all over the place around here. I've had a TV go out twice in this house as well. So, I have a power conditioner on order to see if that helps. My first question is if others had good results using a power conditioner.
My other question is whether or not receivers are just cheap junk compared to what they used to be. I read reviews of receivers going out all the time. Seems like back in the day, someone could keep a stereo 20 years if they wanted to. Are they just too complicated these days? or too many cheap parts?
So I'm looking for a new receiver...preferably up to $1k. 7.2 is ideal especially since I don't have 9 or 11 speakers. Does the board have some favorites?
I'm not partial to a brand. Denon, Pioneer, Sony, yamaha are all ok with me as long as they last and put out good sound. Almost all are 4K pass through and have built in wireless.

I'm looking as well.
Question..i have speakers installed.in my curling. I have a technology closet where all of the wires run. So I run a wire from my cable box to a recieved and all the speakers hook up to reciever, right?
How do I control the volume going to the speakers? Will they lower and rise with the tv volume, or so I have to have a separate remote?
What if I have 2 zones (patio tv and living room tv) I want each playing thru speakers in that zone...how is the volume controlled between the 2?
Not exactly a hijack, because I'm hoping what they suggest for you will work for me as well.

Well in your case, I think you should at least try it.
I've been in my house for 7 years and haven't lost any sort of electronics. I did lose a big monster surge protector once, but it did it's job and was replaced.

A good power conditioner is cheap an worth it imo. Helps prevent grounding noise too but it has to be a real power conditioner, not some cheap multi strip outlet.
I have the Furman digital and a Furman non digital.

If you are using a technology closet then you will need to run all of the HDMI cables into your receivers input and then one HDMI output into your TV. All the speaker wires go into the receiver. You will need to use a universal remote with an infrared hookup. It will turn on the devices you want to use. You program the remote to tell it which devices control the volume, channel, etc.

A universal remote should be able to control between two zones, but I've never done the zone thing so someone else can probably give you more info.
If you don't want to worry about any of that then just have an audio shop hook it up for you.

Thanks for the info. I bought an APC power conditioner for about $200 from amazon. It has multiple power inputs.

Now that the power is settled, I would suggest a Denon AVR-X4300H it is about as much receiver as you can get for around $800 given the reduced price as it has been replaced.

What are these wires coming from? Cable box?

then one HDMI output into your TV.
What does this do?
I have a cat6 running from my cable box to my smart Tv's (1 in living room)
Both main cable box and internet modem in tech closet, along with round thick wires coming into closet from each speaker.
So I need yo buy something to push the sounds yo the soeakers.
