Converting old in ceiling surround sound wiring

I recently bought a house with old in ceiling speakers. I am waiting to test out the speakers to see if I can get away with if for a bit or whether I need to replace immediately. The problem is I have a Sony receiver with the propriety 4.2 mm round connections. The old speakers have what appear on be almost phone jack style connections. Does anyone know a work around for this?

I would say to replace them anyway if they have that old of a connection

Should be easy to change the wire, just use the old wire as a pull string.

the existing speakers are probably 8 ohm and your Sony is probably a 3 ohm system. So they will work but they are going to produce less volume. In addition, many of these box systems process sound matched to their specific speaker system, so your sound is going to be better with the Sony speakers. One reason I despise 'home theater in a box' system.
