I’ll spare you the details, but I ended up (legally of course) with a surplus brand new Dell laptop from a major company.
Everything is encrypted, so I’m wondering how I can salvage it for personal use.
Is it as simple as changing the hard drive?

Is it simply bitlocked ? get with the IT guy you got it from and have them unlock it..
we lock the boards themselves from Dell, so you can swap the drive and we still know where the machine is
if you acquired this properly, it really shouldn't matter about tracking
