Computer build for CAD/CAM

What do you think about these specs for a PC workstation for Autocad 3D modeling and machining programming?

If you want precision, you want an actual pro graphics card. RTX is for gaming.

Autocad can only use 1 core so if you can save money by going to a processor with less cores, then do so. That is unless you might use other software that can use multiple cores.

I don’t do much rendering and I usually turn the shading and visual effects to a minimum to speed up. But I’m handling relatively complex parts and assemblies (e.g., boats).

Yeah I understand that, the processor clock speed is more important for general modeling.

I do some light CFD and FEA for aluminum boat building so I’d imagine those programs would be able to take advantage of the extra cores.

Cost isn’t an issue as long as I’m not spending 50% more for marginal gains. If I save 5 minutes a day, it’s paid for in a few months.

Take a look at Puget Systems. See what they recommend for your particular application(s).

We have AutoCAD LT running on lesser laptop systems so that should be more than enough.
