Comcast internet has been slow... could it be due to the cold?

Ever since it’s been below freezing here in Houston for the past couple of days, the internet has been loading pages slowly much of the time.

Does the very cold weather affect the cable lines?

Yes. Cold weather shrinks the lines so the data can't pass through as quickly.

Line probably froze up around your modem. Either wrap it up with a towel or get a hair dryer.

Yes, temperature and moisture can mess up your connection.

I don't know the details about all the equipment, but from what I understand signal strength has to be adjusted for temperature, so the equipment that handles that may not be working correctly.

The temperature swings could be causing condensation in poorly-insulated equipment boxes, which could make some equipment fail.

Copper expands/contracts quite a bit with temperature changes, and a loose connection somewhere could get pulled out just enough to give a bad signal.

There are lots of ways cold weather can cause problems with your internet. You need to get a tech out there to check your lines.

Edit: Or, considering many people have been off of work, maybe your neighborhood node is just saturated.

Yes, as others have mentioned, extreme moisture and cold will do this.
