Cheap MP3 players working with iTunes

Anyone have any tips for transferring music from iTunes to a cheap MP3 player. I can’t seem to find a solution. I can add the songs but it’s as if the MP3 player doesn’t recognize them.

itunes uses a different format. I think its called m4a. Look around online for a program to covert them to mp3 or just put them on an iphone.
