What's the best bookshelf speaker under $300?
Edited to add, the smaller the better. I've looked at the Klipsch R-41m and they seem to be a nice speaker for the size, although they are only 50 watts max. Polk s20 is to big. I just need something that sounds crisp and will fill a 500 square foot room with decent sound.

What kind of tuner/amplifier do you have powering them?

Sorry but these two things do not go together.

Andrew Jones, has been making really good budget speakers for a while. I have some pioneers I bought a few years ago that, while cheap, sound really good.
Elac Debut 2.0 B6.2 (pair)
They only go down to 44 Hz, so you're not getting really low, but they're bookshelf speakers. You'd really want to get a pretty good subwoofer if you're into music or want to use it for home theater.
I notice you're wanting something to fill a 500 square foot room. That's a pretty big space. I'd probably step up to some floor standing speakers. There's really only so much sound you can get out of bookshelf speakers.
