Looking for a Bluetooth adapter to use with a non-Bluetooth tv. Kicker is that I’d like the tv speaker and the additional speaker to play at the same time. Does such sorcery exist?

There are tons of Bluetooth transmitters (often with receiver capability as well) on Amazon.com made for that purpose. You're looking at $20 and up. As for the TV speaker playing at the same time, that's a function of the TV. Going with aptX Low Latency for the transmitter should minimize any synchronization issues, though the Bluetooth speaker has to be aptX LL as well. That's why they make the receiver end of the equation.

You think if the Bluetooth adapter plugs into the digital optical (as opposed to headphone) it would play both tv speaker and Bluetooth speaker at same time?

Yes. Usually the outputs are always active, and the TV has a function to turn off the built in speakers, or the outputs are fixed level, and you turn the TV volume down all the way, which is better than muting, which on an old Sony I have, displays a mute icon on screen. The problem with having both sets of speakers active at the same time is that they will be out of sync to some degree, smearing the sound or creating an echo effect.

You can't connect a Bluetooth speaker if the TV does not support Bluetooth. Just get a soundbar and connect it to the TV outputs.

Why does it need to be Bluetooth? Curious

Did you just not read the thread at all before posting?

I did. I am more just curious as to why it needs to be bluetooth. Is it going in a different room or something?

For an old man that’s hard of hearing but refuses to wear headphones. Need it to be wireless. Older tv. Need other people in the room to be able to watch tv with him but he has a speaker next to him so he can hear too.

Convince him to wear headphones. Seriously. The two sound sources are going to be slightly out of sync, which may be noticeable, and it will be weird having a copy of the front channel emanating from somewhere besides the TV itself. These things will affect everyone watching with him. Headphones, preferably closed.

Unless, of course, you purchase a bluetooth adaptor, which is what the OP was asking.

Purchased this a few years ago. Picture links to amazon. My TV speakers still work with headphone jack plugged in.

That's an Avantree Saturn Pro. I've had one a few years, too. It can be finicky to pair, and I've found it very occasionally drops out while walking. I'd recommend trying a more recent design. Avantree is one of the big companies, but their products are hit and miss. For example, their Leaf USB computer transmitter is excellent, but the Clip is garbage and cuts out frequently even with phone in your front pocket.

For receivers, I've recently found this TROND model to be excellent:

I wouldn't hesitate to try their transmitter.

I appreciate the info.

I do occasionally have issues with pairing but not typically. The reason I selected this one had to do with wanting a transmitter and receiver (I purchased 2) to use with a wired device. That need went away by the time I got them in.
