Huge topic. All depends on your budget, your tech experience, what you are doing.
I use OPENSHOT.
It's free and easy to learn. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles like FINAL CUT PRO but it does what I need.

If all you want to do is work on single files and make small tweaks, cuts, and effects, Audacity is a great option and free. My only gripe is that you have to install plugins to be able to edit m4a files. I love the ability to do macros. Makes replicating voiceover settings a breeze.
If you are wanting more multi-track work for a professional setting, check out Presonus’ Studio One. I’ve used it for years with great results. And they just released a subscription service where you can get all their stuff for a low monthly. Cancel at any time.

What about the Logic Pro or garage band?

I haven't really had any experience with either. I've used the 2 I mentioned extensively so I can vouch for each.
"Audio editing" is a pretty ubiquitous term like "photography". What exactly are you looking to do? Are you trying to be a professional or just a hobby? Are you looking at free options only or are you willing to pay? Budget?
Edit: And since you mentioned LogicPro and GarageBand, are you only looking for Mac software, Windows, or either?

Podcasting. Got a macbook Pro recently. I know audacity pretty popular and audition is expensive

You should be able to produce a podcast with Garageband, which should already be included on your laptop.
In fact I'd recommend trying that before ever trying to branch into the world of professional DAWs.

Agreed. Until you can make money on your podcast, professional DAWs would be overkill. Would probably be overkill even if you do make any money. GarageBand would do you well for a long time.
I’m assuming you are a novice so I would recommend checking out some tutorials on how to tweak your voice. Learn and do some test recordings to find out what EQ and compressor settings make your voice sound the best. I also can’t say enough about your recording environment. You can do some simple treatments using household items so it doesn’t sound like you are in a bathroom. There are also some really good USB mics that are relatively inexpensive and dang near broadcast quality.
Good luck! And be sure to post a link when you get it going.
