Any suggestions and possibly a cost estimate? We are trying to decide if fixing my wife's older iPad is worth it.

All those places use cheap China glass and isn't worth a crap in my opinion. My last one I broke, we brought to Apple and it has worked flawlessly. If it's an older model, it would be smarter to just buy another because the cost to repair won't be worth the expense when you could just pay another $100 to get a brand new one.

I agree. Paid $70 with a groupon 2 years ago and its never been the same. Wont respond to touch and always flickers.
If you want to keep it a few more years, pony up the $$ and go to Apple. If not then just get a refurbished newer model

Check out ifixit.com
They have OEM parts, repair guides, and tools you need. Looks like their display assemblies have a lifetime warranty. The hardest part looks to be getting the old one off

Order the parts and do it yourself. The iFixit stuff is good - some of the stuff on Amazon is good, some is crap.
I have replaced them before - you can do it - but it's going to take some time. A heat gun will help because there is adhesive all along the edges that holds the glass in place. Heat it up good before you start and it will be much easier - don't be scared to heat it up, because if you don't loosen it up enough first, you will crack it and then have to deal with shards of glass.
