ATT Wireless Phone Service

Uncle is 83 and in Assisted Living in BR. ATT has moved him away from plugging his formerly-working wireless handsets into a new "home internet" box. Now when he tries to dial out, a recording says this type of call cannot be dialed from this device.". Anybody know what I can do to fix, before calling the repair folks? Many thanks in advance.

Need more details. Did they move him to a VOIP box or something? If so, I guess there's a chance an old wireless phone wouldn't work with it.

Not quite. ATT seems to be tossing people off their copper landlines, and moving them to their "Wireless Internet" boxes, which have connections for normal house phones.
Once you get the box, you have a deadline to make the move, then they kill your wall circuit. We made the move, did the notification, and now his wall circuit is dead.
Will be over there later this week, but i THINK what they forget to say is you need to dial the area code on EVERY call. Will test soon. Thanks.

I can confirm this is correct. Area code with every call, no life alerts or security systems can be wired to it.
