iOS 13.4.1 was released today. It looks like it’ll now allow us to use Google Maps (or any other 3rd party navigation) in the home screen now.
Apple CarPlay
- Third-party navigation app support for the CarPlay Dashboard
- In-call information appears on the CarPlay Dashboard

That's pretty damn cool. I haven't had any issue using apple maps for that recently with traffic being so much less than normal but will get back to using waze or google maps now here coming up.

While Apple has allowed third-party apps to now appear on the CarPlay dashboard, developers still need to add support. So far, two big services don’t work: Google Maps and Waze. Google declined to comment on future plans, but told The Verge it is committed to “exploring ways to make the in-vehicle experience more seamless.”
Well crap!!!
Waiting on the third party app developers
