My daughter is in college and she needs some video editing tools for her class and the only option i see is that creative cloud shite that is one-price for 17 apps..of which she only needs ONE and she doesn't want to be dependent on the internet to run it.

i'm curious if i can find an older copy of premiere if it will even work or if adobe has fricked that up and forced everyone onto their web-based tools.

You can get Premiere Pro on its own. Pretty sure you can get Student Pricing as well.

I don't think it requires an always-on connection. I think it just checks in periodically.

Maybe look on E-Bay for an older copy but it won't have all the latest bells and whistles.

ETA... With Student Pricing you may only be able to get it in the Full Suite.

Will Adobe Premiere Elements work for her? It's a cheaper stripped down version that's a standard desktop app. They bundle it with Photoshop Elements for a discount if she needs a non Creative Cloud version of that too.

i'll check. she says she's worried about the version the school provides in labs (which close at 4pm ) and trying to transfer anything she does on her PC back over.

i'm trying to get the version the school has so i can see if there will be any issues going back & forth.

I pay for the entirety of the Adobe Creative Cloud. But I use After Effects, Premiere and Photoshop. If she uses Premiere, she'll likely use After Effects too.

If you're looking for a free alternative, Davinci Resolve is a good one.

I have the whole cloud for photo and video work primarily. But there is a student version LINK that gives her everything for $20 a month.
