I have a product we'll be branding a logo on.... looking into either services that do this or buying some equipment and doing ourselves.

All advice needed

probably not worth getting the equipment to do it yourself pending the material your objects are and the cost of the laser you would need. Unless you are doing a lot of volume. But even if you are doing a lot of volume, it could be even more reason not to try to do it yourself. After the equipment cost is the cost of time to process each item. I did something similar with screen printing. I had a business and wanted to be able to screenprint branded stuff on various garments, I also had a friend selling their printing setup at a great price. I got his equipment with the idea it would give me more flexibility, allow me to experiment with smaller batches to test ideas, etc. It was great and the various garments were some of my best sellers. Then it turned into some weeks I was basically fulltime screenprinting to keep up while also putting in the required time to handle the everyday business work. I ran some numbers and figure it was better for me to just farm that stuff out.

TLDR, if you aren't going to be producing a lot of items it might take a while for spending the MONEY on equipment to be worth it. If you are going to be doing a lot of volume, its going to take a lot of TIME to produce the items.

It’s a handheld POS device.

Have you got an email I can reach you at?

It's low volume. Maybe a few hundred in the next 12 months, tops.

We're selling a device that customers might be 1 - 5 of them and we will etch a custom logo / brand on them.

I was looking at glowforge.com as a solution.

So if the 6 watt printer is doable for two logo etches (front and back of the device) and we could do 2-3 in a day that's plenty fast enough.

I gotcha, in this case I probably would do it in house then. I was thinking this was like promo items and not a specific product you offer.

Late to the party, but I have a GlowForge and I'd be fine with making a sample or two as well.. Let me know here if you email or don't plan to.
