Buy a new one. Honestly. The cost of repair of an 8 year old TV vs the current price of TVs makes it a no-brainer.

I did, just wanted to see if it was salvageable for like a bedroom TV. She's been good soldier

Sounds like it would be the control board. Open up the TV and search on Ebay for the control board part#

You might find a repair video on YouTube for your model and it's symptom.

I fixed a tv. Just googled what it was doing. Bought the boards for like $50 and it works. eBay has boards salvaged from TV's with bad screens.

This. And unfortunately it's not even easy to dispose of the broken one. Best Buy charges you about $50 just to take it off your hands. I had to wait until a local electronics recycling event was held in my parish to dump it.

Although you could probably put it at the end of your driveway and post it for free on Craigslist and it might get picked up quickly.
