The most important thing is to do your homework on the integrator. These things are only as good as the person who designs and programs it.

i live to give tigerwise a hard time on here as a c4 dealer/installer.

i'm just asking questions like 'why would a c4 install include a tv or soundbar?'

that's not really being a dick since those 2 things in particular vary significantly from what one person to the next prefers and if c4 is forcing you to buy a particular tv that 'fits their ecosystem' that would seem to be dramatically limiting your choice particularly since the technology leaps forward seemingly every month.

sorry i didn't overly explain my position on those things but i think those are 2 pretty clear examples of where a locked-in ecosystem can't adapt quickly to current trends.

Then why ever buy anything because as soon as you do it's obsolete?

There are many, many TVs that can be controlled by Control 4 or by other automation systems.

The bottom line is that most people don't have the time you've invested into what you've done (and I know you've put a lot of time into it) or the inclination to learn how to do all of that themselves.

Whenever something needs to be done or installed around my house I look at the value of my time versus money. At the end of the day I could do most things myself but the fact is that I can generate much more revenue by doing what I do instead and hiring a professional for most tasks around my house. Believe it or not, a lot of people are in a similar situation.

i fully realize how insufferably smug monoprice DIY-ers and clearance rack smart-home shoppers come off on here.

i accept my culpability.

He just doesn’t understand. He thinks I’m a C4 dealer, which is actually quite the opposite, so he likes to derail any thread about control systems. His comments on such products only reinforces his ignorance on the subject.

Like I said earlier it’s more important to find the right integrator.

I have a C4 system in the audio room only. I have a master “brain box” in one light switch fixture, and a few slaves hard wired to them...it was all done when the walls were open.
There is a receiver box behind the audio rig that plugs into the network switch that receives the commands from the remote and passes them to the network.

It controls the motorized blackout shades on the windows, the projector, screen up/down, main audio rig, A/V rig, Oppo 4K player, Apple TV, cable box, can lights, rail lights, and some macros and custom tabs for more elaborate switching between the pure audio and the audio/ video systems.

It took a couple days for full programming.

I want to say all mine ran around $3500–but I may be off...it’s been a couple years.

They are coming out next week to run a firmware update and add a couple things on to mine.

IMO...worth it.
