Android/Google photos

I have an Android phone and photos have disappeared from my phone and from Google backup. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I had some photos disappear from a folder that I had created but not all of them. I know that I'm screwed, but was wondering if there is anything that I might try. Thanks for any help.

I think Google gives you 30 days to retrieve anything from the trash on Google drive but not sure if photos provides that as well.
What were you doing when they disappeared?
Have you tried going to Google takeout and select photos and see if they show up on the archive?
You say they disappeared from Google backup... Have you ever established a Google photos account online? You would have to log into it on your phone to get the unlimited photo storage associated with you Google account.
I don't have any other ideas.
