That may be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I have no doubt that it is true though. Seems like it would be cheaper to ride the elevator down on your way to lunch and drop it with a secretary. Unless you need something like proof of delivery with legal documents.

Yeah, if that letter left the building in a FedEx truck, I'd want to throw everyone involved off the roof.

Economies of scale.
Think about this:
We extract oil from a mile underground, ship it halfway around the world, refine it, form it into a plastic fork, pack it, ship it to the store, drive to the store and buy it, take it home, use it one time and throw it away. And all told, the cost is competitive with just washing a regular fork.
