It's not great by any means, but it's better than any city in Florida. If MLS expands to the South, which it will eventually, you won't find a better candidate right now.

It's also the largest TV market MLS hasn't touched and has one of the fastest-growing Hispanic populations in the country. Also has an owner and a stadium lined up for an expansion bid.

Nashville could work I hope since it looks like I may be moving up there pretty soon. A lot of hipsters in East Nashville too. Looks like lots of good places to build a stadium near LP Field and it's a stones throw away from downtown. And since they only have NFL and NHL teams that means there is no competition from a major sports team in the Summer.

Nashville would work, but it doesn't have a pro team that I'm aware of...not anything in NASL or USL or even PDL.
The no baseball/basketball competition would be helpful...works for Charlotte or whatever part of the Carolinas, too. I just think Atlanta is big enough and in a good spot to draw fans from all over the Southeast for it to work.

They had a team called the Metros I believe but they went bust. I think a new one is about to start up.

I would love to see a team in Nashville. Good sports town with a lot of good support for the two teams that already exist there. And I recently read where it had the 5th highest tv rating for the US vs Panama. I live in Chattanooga (which is a big time soccer town) and would gladly make that trip as much as I possibly could. Maybe it's just me being selfish, but whatevsies.

There will probably only be one MLS club in the South (not counting the FL clubs) and the fact is no other town can match Atlanta in terms of money, population, support, demographics, corporate presence, tv market, and ownership prospects as well as stadium prospects.
Some talk of Atlanta not being a prolifically supported pro sports town but there is not one bit of evidence that a MLS club would receive more fan support in another place like Nashville, Charlotte, or Raleigh-Durham.

Rumor floating around lately is that part of the plans for Stan Kroenke building his new stadium for the Rams in St Louis is that it will be either a dual purpose stadium for soccer and football designed from the ground up with hosting an MLS team in mind or that he will build an adjacent soccer only facility as part of a larger development plan for the area surrounding his new stadium.
Trust me, there is plenty of support here for an MLS team should that ever happen. It wouldnt surprise me to see 18-20k regularly in attendance. Soccer fans here just have to wait it out and hope that all these rumors come to fruition.

St. Louis was one of the first soccer strongholds in the US. Shame that the AC STL management wrecked their pro team.

Jeff Cooper was a clown. There is a lot of politics involving the youth development programs around the area and that was part of the problem. Many of the shot callers thought they were not catered to etc. It was a nightmare. Cooper just didnt have the pull or the finances in the end to see it through and he pissed off many of the local clubs along the way and they just wouldnt support AC St Louis. It was much of the same with Cooper heading up our MLS bid for expansion. He just didnt have the clout or finances and the stadium idea for Collinsville IL was TERRIBLE. Its 30 mins from downtown and more than 50 mins from the metro core. Investors jumped of that as soon as the land deal and stadium plan were presented.
I really believe that Kronke is going to bring an MLS team here. He obviously will have no problem with the finances etc.
