But judging someone individually for his time on a once in a generation, golden era team that has been together literally their entire career's isn't?

They're both all time great players, I just think Ronaldo's body of work is more impressive and versatile, especially if he can win another CL with Juve.

If that's all he has, then it's all you can use, but I typically immediately throw team accomplishments out. They are worthless.

So if he can win CL with another loaded team? Amazing.

(And a team that doesn't have to worry much about it's own domestic league)

Barstool Sports getting picked up by Dailymail.

Impressive for that company.

Not sure why that isn't impressive to you.

Messi hasn't won anything major in 2, going on 3 seasons.

Ronaldo is sustaining it longer.

He's won La Liga, the best league in the world, 3 of the last 4 years. This is an unbelievably retarded take.

Argentina is terrible?

It's filled with world class players and has been his whole career. Get real.

Sure they're a trainwreck but Portugal has been similar which much less overall talent recently.

Holy shite. Read your post again. It's been a terrible international set-up since hiring Maradona in earnest. Messi is an easy scapegoat for their problems.

Debatable.

It's been 50/50 for years until Atletico emerged.

I'm blaming Messi for their problems?

They should have stumbled into a Copa at least once in his career just with pure individual talent and Brazil being down the last decade.

The only other league that could even be in the discussion would be England. La Liga has easily had the 2 best teams and even Atletico and Sevilla would probably finish comfortably in the top 4 in England.

If I'm having to defend La Liga, that should probably tell you how wrong you are

Hardly. La Liga has 17 finalists in both European competitions the last 10 years. England has had 8, Germany 3, and Italy 3. And watching the league, teams are better top to bottom in La Liga, and have been for most of this decade. The PL has been poor since 2012 in earnest, and is only now reaching the levels of the teams it fielded in the late noughties.

Real Madrid hasn't been as good as Barcelona in league play, but somehow that isn't relevant to these Messi-Ronaldo discussions, so much so that you can say, like an idiot, that Messi hasn't won anything major in the last 2 to 3 seasons. I mean, Barcelona nearly went the entire season unbeaten in the league, a feat that is rare enough in major league play that only a handful of teams have done it. Why is that somehow irrelevant to these discussions?

These Ronaldo-Messi discussions always go the same way. Ronaldo's team accomplishments are given more weight than Messi's, for some inane, inconsistent reason, and Messi's considerable individual accomplishments are glossed over or ignored. I don't know if you people are just being intellectually dishonest or just arguing in bad faith. It's insane either way.

You serious?

Top to bottom it's closer than you're making it out to be.

You could literally say the same thing about Liverpool, and Tottenham about comfortably finishing in the top 4 of La Liga.

That's leaving out City, ManU and Chelsea.

You need to chill the frick out. It's a discussion and your opinion is different.

There are people on both sides, quit acting like you've discovered fricking fire with your Messi take. Jesus.

Think you're the only one that listens to Men in Blazers?

Most of the Spanish teams would play around bottom half English teams. That's where the real advantage is, especially with regards to Europe. Having teams play the continental style regularly is better preparation for playing against it than playing teams that love the long ball or the low-block, like many lower-half English teams.

Won Europa League 3 straight seasons, made CL last 16 4 times, and quarterfinals once. In the last decade.

And there's what, 2 others? Sevilla in like 5 and Madrid in a few Europa's.

SOOO deep. 4 teams.

You've knocked it out of the park.
