USMNT Backline: Last night was a fluke

"Uninspired Football" I agree with this along with lack of focus and concentration.
Our backline is more than capable of playing better. Half of Belgiums goal's were from complete bone head mistakes (ball watching / not clearing ball away). These mistakes hardly occur. Against Mexico, our backline was a wall of stone and they could easily played just as well last night. Earlier this morning I thought we are doomed, but after a little actual thought, we will hold our own in WC qualifying.
We definitely need to fix what ever altidore's problem is fast or replace him. Being in the striker position, we can't waste what few chances we create, because we don't get many. He need to produce in the new few games or he needs to be benched plain and simple. What good is a sports car that can't go fast? not much good.

Well of course. Thats what you get with inexperienced players with no chemistry together against top 5 teams in the world. That is not a fluke. That's common sense.
Inexperienced players are going to make mental mistakes against high competition. They were thrown into the fire and didn't respond well at all.

But they will respond well if in a similar situation against a better team in a tournament. At least that's the hope.

I came away from last night thinking, Besler may be the most talented CB in our player pool. The least experienced, definitely. Best combination of skill and athleticism, I think so.
Hope he starts vs Germany.

Yea, if they play together more. Not if it's a constant mix match of players. But, I hope they respond better!

I came to realization that we need to look for ways to get better and not bash ourselves for mistakes. I guarantee that even germany or spain have some days where they say, WTF?

Agreed. Mistakes happen, better to learn from them in friendlies than in qualifiers. Besler and Gonzo will be our CBs going into Brazil, they need the maximum amount of shared minutes possible leading up to that, and it needs to start on Sunday.
Gonzo had some mistakes last night, but he passed the ball well and was superb in the air. He out leapt and won the ball against Fellaini on multiple occasions.
When Chandler or Cherundolo return, I'd love to see Cameron get a shot at CDM.

I'm not going to pretend I know about all the players we have to choose from, but is it that hard to put players in the same positions that they play for their club teams?

We need to pick a back 4 and go with it. Let these guys get used to playing with each other. Goodson is obviously a backup at best but he starts last night. He was the 4th best CB on the field for us. Let Besler and Gonzo get the minutes together if Boca is out for good and we are moving on. They are our best pairing if Cameron is staying at RB. Onto that...
Still not sold on Cameron as our best option at RB. If Dolo is done, then it's Cam or Chandler. Chandler looked like shite against Honduras but who didn't. Cameron is pretty slow for a RB and is not going to scare many people coming forward. He also played well for us with his opportunities at CB.
At LB, Beasley has been playing pretty well. Certainly has the pace you want there and last night was our best attacker going forward. Made some good runs and won some corners. If we keep him there then you can slide Fabian up to LM as well.
Bottom line, we need continuity. If this is in fact a changing of the guard and our old vets are out, the young guys need to gel together and someone needs to emerge as the leader of the back 4.
