No one really cares about the FIFA ranking. I'm not saying the U.S. is on the same level as the top Euro teams and I'm not expecting them to be.

No. Top two in each group go to an eight team pool. Top four in that pool go to the WC, fifth place goes into playoff with Oceania's first place. I think.

Actually it's with Oceania's only entrant, since they are only allotted .5 places at the WC.
