You are right in everything you said. However, there are finer points that add to it. All the little things add up and are directly attributable to USSF.

For instance, around the world FIFA requires transfer fees down to the club level to recognize that those talents who get poached or move “up” to other levels are developed before they move to another club.
The USSF doesn’t recognize this, EXCEPT for when a player is taken by or “sold” to another club from MLS teams or their academies. The MLS is happy because they get paid without having to pay back those lower level clubs.

Therefore, the lower levels are punished or at least not incentivized to really develop like they could at an earlier age. This is especially true for the local or smaller club situations. It also limits the recourses those clubs have to bring in prospective talent who don’t have the monetary resources beyond playing in rec leagues or on the playgrounds.

A couple of clubs are challenging this in court.

The other issue is the emphasis that is placed on soccer by the general public. Our middle school program is not serious and really only for school pride.

I would like to add that it’s the same for High School. My son plays for his high school (6A) in DFW area. Their games are scheduled on the same days as basketball games. Almost no one in the stands, but I can hear the gym rocking from the stadium!

Also, 3 recent players from my son’s high school are now playing pro (MLS, but still pro).
Of course, his head coach played for the San Jose Earthquakes until he blew out his knee and the assistant coach came up in an academy in England. So they know what they’re doing.
