It's ok to accept the fact a Welshman is better than an Englishman

What was Giggs' highest placement in the WPOY voting? Beckham finished 2nd in 1999.

I don't have a problem with that. There are plenty of good Welsh soccer players.

I just didn't know Giggs was ever that good. Whether Beckham was ever THAT great or just media hyped is I guess what I'm missing. I mean most thought he was one of the best in the world at his position in his prime.

Yes, really.

So his weakness is that the only thing he's good at is crossing with his right foot and free kicks?

you and i have a different definition of pretty well. he can dribble well enough to where he doesn't trip over the ball and he's not a good enough distributor or defender to ever play center mid like Giggs has done.

I think Giggs and Beckham are a push.

Giggs with MUFC: 1990– Manchester United 614 (110 goals)

Beckham with MUFC 1993–2003 Manchester United 265 (62 goals)

ETA: However, I'd take Giggs now. Obviously bc he is still playing in the CL n EPL.

If you're going to make your assessment off of goals, then..

agreed. I think that's dumb to do unless they're strikers and even then...

- George Best

I'm just saying, he scored his fair share. Maybe Best meant in play and not on set pieces.

David Beckham got hyped because of his looks and because he married a Spice Girl. Most of his plaudits are because of hype. I actually thought Giggs was better over the course of his career. Giggs and Steve McManaman are underrated in comparison to Beckham, but also showed themselves to be more versatile players while also being better wingers. Beckham was good, and at times great, but was basically a one footed winger who had no pace, dribbling skills or finishing ability.

Could Giggs ever do this, this, this, or this in his prime?
