Total football Klinsmann and youth development

I have a question?
I played growing up. And now have a son that plays. We joined a club who's director is heavily involved in US youth development under Klinsmann. And is always coming back from Coaching development programs and implementing what he has learned.
I remember the director talking about playing people at different positions at the younger ages so when they get older they have a better understanding of "total football". Listening to this guy talk and having my child play at the club for a year reminded my of people that just converted to Catholicism. They don't do it the same as people raised Catholic. It's the same religion just all the nuances, traditions, subtleties. When I hear this guy talk and see him try to kick I get the impression he never played period.
I switched my kid to another club ( club consistently wins area tournaments) It doesn't have coaches that fly off to US training but the 2 guys that run it coach college ball and most coaches are former college or semipro players. All but 1 coach is foreign. Just being at new club you can tell these guys get it. Have played different styles of ball and are not new "converts". They don't talk all overly technical they just teach basic fundamentals and play good soccer.
Does anyone have kids older(like in teens). And what do you see?
I don't remember Klinsmann being anything but a striker. It's like he wants the US to play total football but is a new convert himself so can teach it or express rhe ideas of total onto others as would someone who grew up playing that style
