We have one now, but he's young af... From what I read, part of the negotiation with Brewster was to avoid signing another attacker, and if Brewster is as good as advertised I think I'm okay with it

I have high hopes for Brewster, but I hope we aren't putting our faith in a guy that has zero first team experience and coming off a season ending ankle injury..

I'd be okay not signing a true #9, but we need depth that can help this season... even if its a shaqiri type who can spell salah/mane.. But ideally someone who can play centrally, too... unless we think Salah can play up top from time to time.. or perhaps Fekir (who knows) can play the false nine..

I think they should sell Ings/Studge... Send Dom out on loan... Could Origi be an option? I am not enamored with him, but he is a #9 who can score at times.. depth needed..

I'm still a Solanke guy. He actually *does* now have a season of first team experience.

Not a lot of minutes, but he was an available selection and practiced with the first team throughout last season.

I still believe that, provided more minutes, he'll be excellent.

Now that's simply belief and I, of course, can provide no evidence.

I think he can come good, but it won't happen sitting on the bench or coming on the last 10 mins of games... Sending him out on loan, IMO, is not giving up on him, but giving him an opportunity to get quality first team minutes and improve..

Id rather have Brewster on the bench this season and Solanke on loan... give him the same experience and then send him out... unless he has a Rashford type breakout..

I’m fine with keeping Origi around if we don’t sign a true backup 9. Hell he still managed to score goals when he was here. Unfortunately Ings and Solanke struggled with that. And as many problems as Origi has had despite not living up to his potential, at least he put the ball in the back of the net at a decent rate for a backup

I couldn't disagree more.

Origi was pretty good Klopp's first season until he got hurt. Klopp still hadn't implemented fully his "system" at that point either.

The next season, Origi was pretty bad and a fish out of water. He doesn't have the juice to press and defend like Klopp requires out of his forwards (mainly, I think, because he's too damned big). He's easily as much a cramp in Klopp's system on the pitch as Sturridge is.

We need another forward or wing (or two) that *fits*, not one that requires a change in formation and pace.

fair enough... I wouldn't be bothered if he was sold...

IMO, the system stuff gets overblown way too much... If you need a goal in the last ten minutes, he can get you one.. He can play in the early rounds of cup matches.. you can get a guy that works his socks off, like Ings, and cant find the back of the net...

Of course Klopp wouldn't build a team around him.. but he can serve a purpose..

I don’t disagree he’s not the perfect fit for the system but in Klopp’s 2 years he had 5 goals and 7 goals respectively. I know that’s not great but Ings and Solanke combined for a grand total of 2 last year

Again, I know they do some of the little things and Solanke has more growing to do, but that’s why I want him to go out on loan and get regular moments while keeping a guy that’s still young that has actually put some balls in the back of the net.

And I know he’s not the long term solution but it just doesn’t look like we’re gonna buy anyone unless we get Fekir and maybe he works as a false 9 too?

Unfortunately there’s not many other Firmino’s out growing on trees that would offer everything he can for our system

100% agree

As much as I’d love for us to tell the rest of the world we’re here to stay and drop like 80 mil on Werner to rotate with the front 3, it ain’t happening. So more than likely we’ll just have to make use with what we got

And hopefully he would be used more just to spell Firmino here and there and give Brewster a chance to get some limited minutes as well

Well, god bless him, and if he sticks I hope for the best.

And if I believe you that he “works his socks off” on the pitch, then his socks must be really, really thick and slow socks. Because, to me, it looked like he was trotting in molasses compared to other players running and pressing.

Hell, considering conditioning, speed, and endurance, I’d rather have Milly sub for Firmino before Origi. He’d put you in a solid shift without gasping for breath after 5 minutes, at least. Pretty sure our false-9 led the league in tackles at the forward positions last season. Put Origi in and you can erase any of that off the blackboard.

I was referring to Ings...

And I know he doesn't offer the same things as Firmino... You wont find many that do.. I wouldn't go out and buy Origi, but we have him on our books and he can score goals...

Yeah, I was confused, sorry.

Goals are obviously important. All of our front line and midfield press and tackle and defend (the tackling part might be a little light from Mo, but Firmino and Mane are excellent in that area). Ings does that. Solanke does that.

Origi just can't press and run. He just can't. Now that doesn't mean he doesn't TRY to press and run. I don't question his effort, but he's just not of the size (too big and heavy) and level of fitness to be that kind of player. I would just have to disagree with anyone who believes that he does.

Yeah... system system system blah blah blah etc. But the fact is Klopp *does* use a system and he *does* prefer the 4-3-3 and he *does* prefer that his #9 on top do a lot more things on the pitch than to work himself into position in the box, be fed the ball, and put it in goal. Hell, if that's all we want from our bench #9 I'd rather keep Sturridge than Origi.

(P.S. I don't dislike Origi. Seems like a really great, nice kid. I just happen to believe that he's about as useful as tits on a boar hog.)

Im not his biggest fan... and wouldn't be disappointed if he was sold... but the discussion was going back to the talk that we promised Brewster we wouldn't buy another #9..

If that is the case, I still think he can be useful in a game... again, the last ten minutes or even to start smaller cup games... Klopp did think enough of him at one point to start him in the Europa League semis against BvB and he was rewarded with a goal..

Trust me, I'd be worried if we went in to the season with him as our starting CF.. and yes, because of the system.. but Klopp isn't that daft to stick to one strict system... hell, he played 4231 when he was at BvB..

If Klopp gives him a look over and decides, nah... thats cool, too..

Klopp didn't have a wealth of choices at his disposal in his first partial-season. He also didn't have a preseason in which to make positional evaluations of his new personnel. So, basically, with Sturridge's fitness issues at that time (and again and again and again), Origi was almost like a what-the-heck choice using the process of elimination that worked out reasonably well.
