The "news" this morning is that we won't get Keita unless he forces the move, indications being he'll be reluctant to do so.

But less than 24 hours ago it was that the fee was basically set... I'm not sure I buy it honestly.

Can't buy anything the press is saying. Transfer rumors are impossible to follow like I'm sure everyone is aware of. I think it's time we begin to look at our back up options and wait until next year to get him when his release clause comes into play. Granted I wanted him this window but I just don't think it's going to happen anymore.

If we're talking backup options, I don't think we should go that route in the central midfield. I think the allure of Keita was that he is a perfect storm prospect/player
He can effectively play the 6, 8, or 10 at only 22 years old. It's getting 3 young players rolled into one, and why Klopp is so keen on signing him. He gives us so many options from a tactical standpoint as well as a depth standpoint. Can gets hurt? No problem, slide Keita back and insert Gini.
Our midfield doesn't really need bolstering. I think we're set at forward but would rather see us sign that potential 20 goal striker as opposed to option 2 in the midfield after Keita. Gini, Lallana, Henderson, Can, Couthino, Milner, Grujic...all guys that can be adequate to great in the midfield. Klopp just thinks Keita is that good.
If we fail to sign him...and Klopp will fight for him until the window closes, then we need to turn all of our focus towards CB and LB, because if we don't upgrade and add depth there then we aren't playing champions league in 2018 anyway and we're right back where we started. Bayern will buy Keita and we'll wonder what could've been

Exactly. We need to make it happen this window, because if it doesn't, Bayern/Madrid/Barca will come calling.
I think RB is just playing the game. He wants out and we're willing to pay out the damn nose for him. He'll be here. As will VVD.

If we don't get Keita this summer, then I just assume we wont get him... As much as I'd like him, I don't think it's the end of the world.. There are other CM options that would be a helluva lot cheaper and could be good buys IF Klopp has to have one... IMO that was never our biggest need.

Some people saying we had a €65m bid rejected. If so, that's a start that we made a formal bid and are in negotiations. I guess we'll see.
