I can't understand why anyone would be happy about this (especially Celtic fans). You remove the only other legitimate team in Scottish football and you're gonna die a faster death than already scheduled.
Plus this isn't like beating them in matches, this is just watching a rival die because of financial reasons. Where's the fun in that?
This. I would derive no pleasure from the Falcon's shutting down. The fact that the Saints have won a Superbowl and they haven't is sweet as honey.
Much like the fact that Celtic has won Europe and Rangers haven't.

One of the funniest comments I've ever seen on this board. Cheers.
And you reply to HH.
Thanks though.
On a more serious note, I am totally with BMac on this one. I fricking hate the Cardinals, but I would hate to lose the rivalry with them.

A weak Rangers isn't good for Celtic, hell might as well find a way into the EPL.

I thought about this. They'd be giving up European football for awhile though. No way they sniff top 4 (or 5) in England.

They would probably be somewhere in the middle of the EPL rankings right now with the likes of Fulham and Everton but they would be better in the long term with the extra revenue.

I think it would certainly add to the parity the league is starting to develop. I can see Celtic being a very successful EPL club in the future.

They'd get tons of more fans worldwide. Like is said, they'd be midtable, but with the extra revenue and exposure they'd quickly rise up to be a contender. I'm in full support of allowing Celtic and Rangers into the EPL. The EPL would be full of so much win.

administration is overrated #truelife

OMG accountants took over the soccer club to pay off what 49 million pounds?, lose 10 points and can't sign new players.
The 10 point deduction sends them to 2nd place in the SPL.
Am I missing anything ? Sounds like the death penalty.

Does the SPL get any tv coverage outside of the UK and Ireland? I agree a move to the EPL would be good, but how do you do it? You would have to add 2 more spots but lower level teams would cry foul. Maybe another thought would be to create a new league with the best teams from Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Wales (if you can get them out of the English system).

They already have a massive following in the western world. And that's with little to no access to tv broadcasts.

75 million pounds. They also owe money to Bedoya's club, Jelavic's old club, Hearts (for Wallace), and Boca's old club.

Might be up to 20 points.

If HMRC goes for liquidation to pay the debt a Portsmouth type situation happens where they'll be allowed to sell players outside the transfer window.

Under the SFA, if a club enters Admin but ends up above relegation (or if a newco is created, which is the probable course of action), the clubs in the current SPL vote on whether the team stays in the SPL. It needs to be unanimous. Aberdeen and Hibs have already come out saying they'll vote no. If they don't get unanimity they get sent down to Div. 3.
There is also a chance that the SFA will award the last three SPL titles to Celtic due to how Rangers financed their club during those years.
Rangers also do not receive ticket sales for the next four years.
There is a very large chance that Ibrox will be sold to pay off the debt.

1. The existence of the "Old Firm" has strangled the other SPL teams. They get a good player and it's bought by one of the OF (in recent years, Rangers, which is one reason they're in this position). With one less OF member, the other teams get to keep more players.
2. Rangers have a massive amount of fans from Motherwell/Edinburgh/Inverness/etc.. Without Rangers, these fans either follow the newco (which they'll probably get annoyed with) or follow their local team.
3. Rangers (correct or not) is a symbol of all that is wrong in Sotland/GB. Removing them removes that symbol.
4. Although unlikely, the death of Rangers opens up the possibility of Celtic to the EPL. Why? The original denial was due in part to Rangers' history of fan disturbance (Spain, Manchester, etc.). The other problem was travel time and being outside England. Swansea's fixed that.
5. The ban on Europe for clubs in Admin opens up a European spot for one of the lesser SPL clubs. This means money for one of the lower SPL teams.

My God. I never realized the repercussions were that bad. That's absolutely insane.

Ah yes fair and balanced opinion from TN Bhoy, as per usual.

exactly. I know tons of casual soccer fans that don't know a thing about the Old Firm because its never on tv But these are the same people that are casual fans of chelsea, Man U, or Barcelona because they are seen on tv. Celtic and Rangers are known by all soccer fans, but if they got into the EPL they'd catch the attention of the casual fans and increase their following among them.

Care to expand on this? I'm curious as to what you mean here as it pertains to their culture.
