The wall on Messi's free kick last night

On Messi's free kick last night, Zusi was on the right side of the wall (as you face our goal). Lavezzi stepped in between Dempsey and Zusi and was allowed by our players to just stand there taking up space. As soon as the kick is taken, Lavezzi just steps out of the wall leaving a huge gap between Dempsey and Zusi, and Messi's free kick goes directly over that gap. Here are some screenshots to show what I'm talking about:
I didn't notice this on my own, but heard other people talking about it. Who knows if the wall would've been able to jump and block the free kick anyway (probably not), but it at least shows a lack of awareness on the part of our players.

How many people do you want in the wall? If Zusi was in the wall, then someone is running free.

If you watch the video it definitely looks like Zusi is lining up as part of the wall and he moves over prior to the free kick (while looking back at the goal for positioning) but the rest of the wall stays in place leaving a huge gap.
Like I said, I'm not the one that noticed this. I heard it on the Total Soccer Show podcast, which I should have been more specific about in my OP.

He moved to cover the open player. The rest of the wall was supposed to stay in place.

I think Lavezzi baited him into moving over. That can't have been an accident.

I wonder on particularly dangerous FKs if you would be better to put players on the posts and go with a smaller wall. Allowing the offense to put players in front of goal can't be worse than letting Messi pick his spot.
Also, the wall was never meant to cover the side of the goal to Guzan's left. That was his responsibility and he cheated too far over. I don't blame him, but adding people to the wall would have closed off the wrong space.
