I went to school for it. It's not necessary, but it got me on my way to my current job.

Stewie can divulge what his job looks like on a day-to-day basis, but I write anywhere from 5-10 pieces per week and work from home on most days. Lot of watching and a lot of tweeting, too.

Stewie and war slam, serious question, how does one go about getting this job? And what does it actually entail?

I'm a sports writer. I was joking a little bit, but there are days that I just sit around and pay attention to Twitter and watch stuff. I work for a magazine so my workload is based on when we go to print, and when games are, so summers are super slow.

Getting into it is straightforward. I went to journalism school, and just started writing for anyone who would print my stuff, but if you can write well you can get a foot in the door. I'm really lucky to have the job I have and make pretty decent money, but I'd hesitate to recommend anyone go into the field unless they're willing to risk low pay/unemployment. I have decent job security but it's one of those fields these days where you have to keep in the back of your mind that you may be doing something completely different in five to ten years.

Yeah, I'll pretty much echo everything Stewie is saying. In fact, he was one of the guys who let me write some soccer stuff for him when I was in college. I don't do soccer anymore, but that experience was really important for somebody like me.

This. All of it. The job I currently have (for a website, not a magazine like Stewie) is one of the most secure ones I could have in this industry. But it can all change quickly. I know a lot of great and highly experienced sportswriters who have been let go because of how this field can be.

Just please tell me y'all aren't writing clickbait stories.

Depends on your definition of clickbait, I guess. I've heard so many.

Random question, you write for Bleacher Report?

Also, this will likely come as a shock, but I'm a sports writer as well

I'm not going to confirm or deny who I work for on here. A few posters know from following me on Twitter, though.

Fun fact, Alaba was the most dispossessed player at Euros 2016.

I write long arse features for a magazine, so the opposite of click bait.

Not all "click bait" is bad, though. It's all in how you do it.

And no, I don't work for B/R, though I did write soccer stuff for them six, seven years ago, when I was building a portfolio. B/R gets a bad rap, but some of the best writers in the business (Howard Beck, WarSlamEagle, etc) are there doing great work.

Hey, I got put into the same parenthetical as Howard Beck! (Appreciate the love, Stewie.)

And to answer McCaig's original question, yes, I work full-time for Bleacher Report.

Nah, I was mostly just messing with you. There's enough people on here who know who I am IRL that I don't mind.
