It's the SPL. No one on this board cares.

We enjoy messing with Celtic and Troll Bhoy (although he is way better than he was in the past).

Second, this question actually deserved a serious answer.

I've always heard the UK called a country of countries. Scotland and England formed a union about 300 years ago but both countries still have their own national identity. About 150 years ago both England and Scotland formed their own football associations. It would likely make more financial sense to have one league for the entire UK and to have just one national team since that would give you a larger talent pool, but it's just not going to happen. I think Scottish citizens will get to vote later this year to go independent or to stay in the UK.

That was my point. It has nothing to do with the SPL and everything to do with TN Bhoy.

In the end the pressures I see making the EPL guided by the few big money teams is the same force involved in making only two powers in the SPL.

At the end of the day I think we will see a move slowly towards mega-leagues with big big big tv deals.

As for the SPL and the scottish powers, I would say that it is better to play against the best of the best instead of wallowing in mediocrity the majority of the time. It would also likely make a LOT more money, as the teams playing at the Rangers or Celts would be 'bigger names'. All in all it is a big win unless you either are a protectionist, as in scotland first, or if you think somehow that the teams leaving would have a larger overall negative impact in scotland. I don't buy the second argument but I can see why it is appealing.

one nationa team

I honestly doubt I would support that team.

Combining the seperate countries into one league or team takes away from national identity, its exactly why the SFA was so against a team GB in the Olympics.

Few quick things (I'll make a longer response later):

1. Scottish politics: Scotland has been attempting to secede from the UK for years.

2. EPL fears: Celtic and Deadco have a history of fans that get into trouble. Although only the latter is known for destruction (see Manchester), both sets of fans have run afoul of UEFA. Also, when both clubs were alive, England feared that the clashes between the supporters would negatively affect the image of the EPL. Finally, the IRA issue would cause problems at matches in England.

3. The death of Rangers: the only way England would entertain Scottish clubs entering would be as a package deal. Being that one of the clubs no longer exists, that's out of the question

4. European football: although Celtic would be too good to get relegated, without massive cash injections, the best the club could hope for was Europa League places. This is unsound financially.

5. Coming in: related, the EFA wouldn't allow any new clubs directly into the EPL.

6. SPFL: Celtic's exodus would be a massive detriment to the game in Scotland, both club and nationally.

Did I say that?

Deadco's fans trashed Manchester and Barcelona (that one led to El Mundo Deportivo telling them that they weren't welcome back under any circumstances).

quote:

Dear Rangers supporters, don't come back to Barcelona. And not because your team are a bunch of cloggers, which they are. It's not that: the Camp Nou often has weak, boring teams that only defend, run and foul, teams that have no place in the top tier competitions. But Rangers defend, run and foul badly. Their defenders are butchers, the midfielders have three feet and the forwards are wardrobes.

But most of all, it would be preferable that Rangers never come to Barcelona again because every time they do they wreck it. You (Huns) destroyed the Camp Nou seats 35 years ago and this time we've had 48 hours of thuggery, provocation, fighting and low-life drunkards all over the city, which you've made a mess of at your whim.

Stay and vomit in your own home, urinate in the corner of your own sitting room, fight with your own neighbours Celtic (who deserve a medal for putting up with you) and foul the streets of Glasgow. Don't come back to Barcelona, you're an embarrassment. And while we're at it, don't play in the Champions League. You're not up to scratch, either on a sporting or human level.

There are noisy supports who, even though they drink large quantities of beer, make friends. Not you lot, because you turn everywhere you go into dumps. You are undesirables.

And so too are those who sell on their tickets. These people swindle Barcelona because they are selling their tickets illegally. And it makes other (Barcelona) supporters angry. If you’re not going to the match, give your ticket to a family member or a friend, or like many others, use the ‘Seient Lliure’ service. (SJR I think this is a scheme where you can re-sell unwanted tickets through the club)

It is the club and UEFA who decide who tickets should be sold to. If only you, in a moment of sanity, decided not to travel without one. As that is impossible, it is necessary to crack down on those who sell them illegally. But best of all would be never being drawn against Rangers ever again.

I frequented a UK Football board for about 5 years and heard enough of the back and forth to know that I can't take anything either fanbase says about the other with any seriousness.

The thing is Celtic fans act like asshats yet are the first to cry about shite when someone fights back and doesn't take their shite or just goes to Celtic park and gives zero fricks like Ajax did this year.
