It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our patron and inspiration, Martin Kane.

The Kano Foundation took inspiration from the highly successful “Bringing Martin Home” fundraising effort that was undertaken by the Celtic fans.

After Martin, known as “Kano” to his friends, was struck down with the neurological condition Devic’s Syndrome, members of CQN forum kicked off a fundraising effort to pay for modifications to his house to get him home for Christmas with his family after spending a year in hospital.

One fundraising event was a bucket collection outside Celtic Park on a match-day.

The overall campaign exceeded the target and it was decided to use some of the extra money to take a group of children, who had volunteered at the bucket collection, to a match at Celtic Park. The idea for The Kano Foundation was born and since season 2010/2011 The Kano Foundation has been Keeping Football Free for Kids, giving over 3000 kids a unique match day experience at Celtic Park.

JP Gilmartin, trustee said:

“Martin’s passing has come as a shock to everyone at The Kano Foundation and our thoughts and prayers are with Carolyn, his children and his family at this sad time”.
