The CWS final series may have worse ratings than the USA vs. England match on June 12.

Why do people feel the need to express their dislike for soccer? I hate the MLB but I don't act like I am sending ESPN or TBS an email bashing "America's Game". The WC comes around every 4 years, do you act like this when the Olympics comes around? God Dammit I hate the Olympics, the sports are sooo booooorrrringg, WTF is curling. Just let the soccer fans have their fun, and we will have our fun. Deal with it.
Got no problem with it coming around every 4 years. Got no problem with the rest of the world liking soccer. Got no problem with the little pockets of Americans here and there liking it. Just making an observation that ESPN is trying awful hard to force feed this tournament that we Americans have demonstrated again and again that we have absolutely no interest in - at least not on a large scale.
Again, it was an observation made on a different board and moved over here. You can go back to eating your orange wedges and saying "nil" again.

I am an American. I do not care about the World Cup.
Oh well. Money talks and bullshite walks, because A LOT of Americans do.
quote:
(from 2009)“US soccer fans have purchased over 93,300 tickets for matches at next June’s 2010 World Cup in South Africa. This is – outside of fans in the host country – by far the highest number of tickets purchased and considerably more than fans from football powerhouses Germany, Spain, Brazil and Holland for instance.”
quote:
The U.S. leads the way with more than 130,000 tickets sold to date.
The largest grossing World Cup ever (# of asses in seats, total revenue) was.... waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait for it.... USA '94.
So, while you PERSONALLY may not care.... there are plenty that do.
And if you don't care, who gives a shite?
There are plenty of sporting events that get publicized to the max (Daytona 500, The Masters, Shitty BCS Bowl games.... oooooh Cincinnati) that get hyped to no end.
Unless your TV only gets ESPN, why not change the channel?

the two shouldn't really conflict given that most of the WC games will be on pretty early for Americans. Plus, there's ESPNU..

With pleasure. I didn't come HERE to flame. I put it on ANOTHER board and it was moved. I would never have clicked on something labeled "world cup board" on purpose.

Honestly I doubt this. It is so hard to tell because all of the illegal immigrants coming it. This may sound stupide but think about it. Where do we have the most immigrants coming in from? Mexico? What do mexicans love? Soccer. And only recently has there been an increase in the demand for soccer in the US. Wonder why.

Uhhh the majority of soccer fans in America are of the WASP variety (see Seattle, Portland, LA fan bases).

I started to reply before it got moved, I think it is funny that people get so annoyed when something that America didnt create starts to become popular. Soccer is the most complained about sporting event (no actual data to back this) by people who don't like it or haven't given it a chance.
On a slightly different note: I am part of the Free Beer Movement, so if anyone who doesn't or hasn't watched/liked soccer comes watches a WC game I'll buy them a round.

I didn't put it here. I put it on the OT board and it was moved.

the increase in demand has way more to do with Gen X and Gen Y being exposed to soccer at an extremely early age...thus many of them developing a love for the game in the same way they love other mainstream sports in the US. TV has responded to their demand by increasing coverage. It will only increase in the future, so get over it
but hey, if blaming immigrants makes you feel more comfortable, then don't let me stop you
