If you "beat his arse", you're probably looking at a lengthy suspension if you aren't banned.

If soccer is such a cuck sport that you need to ban a kid for defending himself from a sucker puncher then perhaps getting banned would be the best thing to happen to him.

Beating someone's arse isn't defending yourself. And these are 9 year olds. No one is going to get their arse beat.

If the other kid starts it then it most certainly is.
Its U12, my kid is 10 but there are 12 yo that play. This kid looked 12 and was a good 6" taller than mine.
I agree that nobody world be getting their arse beat which is why I didn't mind saying to him what I said. That and he simply doesn't have it in him to beat anyones arse. He's a tender hearted kid.

IDK what's going on with them. My boy is an '06, and neither them nor HFC is fielding a team in the state league or in the tournament this weekend. In Hattiesburg and neither team fields an 06?

I was gung-ho about finding alternatives to my son's coaching situation before the season started, but I've backed off now. This weekend should be telling about how they'll compete...and where my son's head is with it all. He had a great free kick goal last weekend, but didn't find himself receiving many passes on their end of the field. As the center mid that's not great, but we'll see if it was just the competition that was uninspiring.

Interesting. I had heard they weren't doing that great in the tournaments they were entering so maybe they don't want the bad press. I know its a program just getting off the ground and that there are certainly some challenges. At least here in Birmingham the established clubs are pressuring the facilities managers not to let them train, etc. We live like 2 min from excellent training grounds and program so we wont be switching anytime soon.

One thing that has really helped my son is futsal and 3v3. You might see if anyone has those programs nearby. Kids love the constant action and touches + it forces kids to be quicker on the ball and make fast decisions.

Think of it like using self defense if you shoot someone in the back who broke into your house as they are running away outside your house. You aren't going to win that "self-defense" argument.

I think what the other guy meant is to use whatever means to protect himself while not being the aggressor until someone intervenes. If your son knocks the dude out and jumps on top of him and wails on him, I don't think anyone will see that as "self-defense."

If something happens to you and you react back at the other player, then it's retaliating. It happens in football, basketball, soccer, etc. This isn't hard. And I doubt they did anything strictly based on anything the other coach said. You're taking this decision by an inexperienced crew probably too hard.

So if I am holding on to you and punching you, and then you push me off of you then you would most accurately describe your push as a retaliation?

I'm not taking anything hard. I posed the question because I wanted to determine what the protocol was for these situations in soccer.

I honestly don't know what exactly led to the decision but the timing was awfully suspect and I'm certainly not in any position to give the refs any benefit of the doubt.

Depending on how you do it, it could be seen that way.

I agree and certainly that would be much more akin to a "retaliation", if we are using terms common to the thread.

True. But I envision a scenario more like Ralphie and Farkas in the Christmas Story. Kid assaults another and the other just goes bezerk and wails on the instigator until its quickly broken up. I can't see any adolescent kids knocking anyone out with a punch but maybe.

Unless you are a personal injury attorney in front of a jury, nobody is call that push "retaliation". It is self-defense all day every day. Just stop.

I disagree. They sucked from the get go and let the game escalate to the point of assault and battery. Why would I assume they wouldn't be susceptible to manipulation or coercion from a coach?
