Lamela hasn't disappointed me at all. Since he only turned 20 recently, I really didn't expect that much but the signs of brilliance are hard to miss when he plays.

His ability to get past multiple defenders dribbling is already on an elite level. Iniesta or Messi like sleight of touch, seriously.

However, he's still really raw as far as seeing the game develop and learning what trickery isn't going to fly against top flight defenders.

He also needs to mature a lot in terms of mental toughness as he's had similar issues to Balotelli as far as letting defenders really get in his head by trash talking, clandestine tripping etc. . . In fact, he's just back from his second costly red card suspension for Catania tomorrow.

All in all, he's probably another year or two away from blooming into the kind player you build around but he's certainly showing glimpses of that type of potential.

I do follow Roma closely.

As far as Serie A in general, I watch a lot of matches and read the papers but don't really follow any other teams in all that much depth.

I'm actually on my way out for dinner with a big fan of River. He's taking me and a couple of friends to some Argentinian restaurant in Queens that supposedly has a cool collection of jerseys etc.

Luis Enrique set to leave after this season

saw this yesterday. he must have something up his sleeve, or is in need of a sabbatical (kind of doubt it).

I've posted about LE's decision above. He seems so brutally straight forward that I'm taking him at his word for why he stepped down:

He said he felt defeated that he wasn't able to teach/convey his ideas better to the squad and had made too many errors. He apologized and said he felt he wasn't the best person for the job.

He spoke of exhaustion and certainly was bothered by the ultras' protests during the recent nosedive the team took just when it looked we were almost favorites to make a CL spot.

I like LE a lot and I've always wanted him to stay. That he's not quite ready for a bigger club like Roma in terms of teaching his system to grown professionals and being able to adjust his tactics a bit on the fly to results is clear. I still hoped he'd stay to "grow" with the team.

Seems maybe he's not ready for the high pressure of that setting right now either. I'm not exaggerating how much the fans' reaction to some admittedly extremely poor performances against bottom of the table clubs with the CL berth on the line seemed to just totally deflate LE and change his complete demeanor. I can't fault him for that either but it is in the job description.

We'll see about Bojan this summer. But after seeing LE leave and Jose Angel seeming completely shell shocked by the fans criticism--which is unfair insofar as he was thrown into a starting role that he's not close to being ready for at a big club-- I'm worried all 3 of our Spanish entries will be gone next year.
