will he even play?
No...Woy said in the article that he just called up a few really young guys to give them the experience in case they ever develop into squad players for England. I'm sure BR is annoyed...Hodgson still taking a shite on Liverpool two years later.

He's only there for the experience. Don't think he'll play.
Find the whole thing a little silly anyways. If he's good enough to play at a certain level he should play there. Keeping him at U18s seems pointless. It's not like BR is really holding him back. He sounds about as silly as Arsene did when he tried to get England to baby Wilshere even thoughhe hadn't....
Only reason he shouldn't play for the U21s is if Pearce is still coaching them. Haven't kept up to see if he is and too lazy to wiki...

He is.

The whole point is Rodgers is being hypocritical? Sorry, I must be confused.
Sterling definitely shouldn't play for the U21s then. All Pearce does is hinder development.

Probably a call-up to tie him down for England. I think he's also eligible to play for Jamaica.

You are. Rodgers wants control of his development. Doesn't want him to get traditional English tendencies. He wants him to develop in his system.

I also believe he's thinking about it from a psychological level, too... At least thats what I took from it...

I've never been one for goal compilations....
But is Steven Gerrard not the greatest hitter of the ball from the outside of the box the EPL has ever seen? Most of those goals are from 30/40 yards out and in the upper corner. I think out of the entire compilation of 30-40 goals, maybe 2 of them are from inside of the box. I wish he would pull the trigger more often from that range this year (I know, he's too old, blah blah).

Absolutely. He's 17 - he isn't supposed to be playing at the senior-level yet for England. In all honesty, he probably shouldn't be playing week in and week out in the PL yet either. Rodgers probably wishes he had a better option on the wing, but the reality is that Sterling is currently our best option - and the reason he's playing.

While I do agree with parts of your argument; in that, people might lose their way a la Gazza. There are also the Messis and the Ronaldos of this world who are thrown into the deep end at a young age. Some will sink some will swim. But those that will succeed will get out of it stronger both physically and mentally than others. It's a chance we have to take. If Sterling can keep his head straight and stay free of major injuries this can be awesome.
That said I would like Sterling's progress to be made under the watchful eyes of Brendan and not the quite possibly cataract ridden opaque things that are Woy's Woyes, if you know what I mean.

Do the U18s play Rodgers' style? Obviously there will always be competing interests between national teams and clubs, but this one is both inevitable and uncontrollable to a large extent.

In no way am I saying Sterling shouldn't be playing. I'm just giving reasons why Rodgers wouldn't want him playing for the international side.
There is a reason you don't see many professional athletes starting at 17 years old. And it isn't because of a lack of talent, skill or ability. It's because 95% of the time, 17 year olds flat out aren't supposed to be competing against athletes in their mid 20s. They simply aren't ready for various reasons.
Of course there will be freak exceptions: Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bryce Harper, etc.
And yes, in some situations it is worth it to "throw the player to the wolves," if you will.

U18 is much less impressionable/glamorous on a young player. Rodgers has made it very obvious he doesn't want to deal with an egotistical superstar.

Of course. Rarely while the player is still in his developmental phase though.

Pretty good analysis of Suarez from Jonathan Wilson... Ive always thought it was between the ears myself...

Maybe we've had so much experience with it in recent years, I'm numb to it.
Certainly fair considerations.
