Ah. Currently I'm plowing through an Argentinian flick called The Aura which is pretty cool so far.

He's obviously a brilliant man. I like him a lot, but his classes bore me to tears. One of the unique things about the philosophy department (the thing that drew me to it, actually) is the conversation and discussion present. I've taken film classes before and that translates particularly well to them. Unfortunately, this class was about 10% discussion and 90% lecture.
Someone else needs to teach the class. The problem is he has seen all of the films literally hundreds of times. It sucks because he just tells you the answers and themes present without letting you do any critical thinking.

it's on a lot of them.
Here's a list where a lot of critics picked their favorites. I created a huge list back in January with a ton of films on it but have added a few along the way. knocked out about 35 on the list with school and multiple jobs. and it was my best semester grade-wise

i'm obsessed with getting my hands on a copy of Shoah, but it will probably have to wait until after the bar. that and Koyaanisqatsi really intrigue me.

His lecture style works when he's talking about his area of expertise, German philosophy, especially Heidegger. Some of Heidegger's later works makes no sense without context. Schufrieder obviously checked out years ago, which is a shame, but he fills In important role in the department. LSU is really unique in that it teaches both Continental and Analytic philosophy. Most departments in America are Analytic, and Continental is relegated to English or Comparative Lit depts.

I own Koyaanisqatsi. Enjoyed though I don't remember why I had to buy it. There is this new doc called The Act of Killing which I can't wait to see.

He hasn't changed the film list at all.
That's disappointing as it would be interested to see what his take on some more modern films are.
If Carl Freedman is still at LSU, he occasionally teaches an American crime film class, which was incredible. All we did was watch The Godfather and The Sopranos all semester. He's also one of the top authorities on Science fiction, though I don't think he teaches that class anymore.

No he hasn't. And it's obvious. Really disappointed by the class because I had high hopes for it.

English. Would be a 4000 level class. I think he should still be at LSU. If your interested in philosophy with a lot of discussion, take Modern Criticism with Dr. Michie in the English dept. The class goes through a whole litany of modern philosophers. I despise Literary theory, so take its application to literature with a grain of salt.

Damn, neither one are teaching a class next semester. It's my graduating semester too and I need to fill 3 more upper level hours.

Rick Moreland is teaching the class. He might be interesting to take. Looking at the LSU schedule booklet makes me wish I could be in undergrad again.
