I'm sitting here watching the replay of today's Euro game and I'm trying to think of ways to increase scoring and/or avoid PKs like I'm sure everyone else has at some point today. What if they increased the amount of substitutions a team could make? Also, not only increase the amount of subs, but allow a player that has been subbed to reenter? Say they increase the amount of subs to 6, and if you still have any subs remaining, you can put a player back on.

I've played soccer most of my life and I understand the importance of fitness at this level. I think this would only speed up the tempo of the game which would increase the chances of goals. It could also prolong players career.

I hate penalties but crap after 120 minutes the players are to damned tired to score.

I meant allow 6 subs and reentries from the beginning of play, not from the beginning of OT.

Diminishes the game.

Also really really tilts the favor even more towards football powers.

I have always wanted soccer to have more subs, both to introduce new tactics and freshen up games. I don't see why a team playing with an EPL roster (6 subs + GK) can't empty the bench.

Obviously the subs would have to happen faster if you did it this many times in a game. I also think having a position like volleyball's "libero" is worth considering; any sub involving that player does not count against the game allotment.

Occasionally though, the sub rule is awesome when a team is out and their goalie gets injured. I love seeing defenders put on the gloves.

No love for Mike Magee (at all of about 5'-7") playing balls out against San Jose for a half last year?
