and the teams in the area? Would end up being a new nation, So Barcelona and those in the area would have to start a new league?

Have to think the blow back, if they ended up creating their own Country, would be to threaten expelling all teams from the area from LaLiga??

Sounds like there will be a huge fight from Madrid(government), but the party wanting to bolt has control of the area, and the people to back it.

I wouldn't think so, despite what Tebas (Spain's president of the federation) has said.

If I had to guess, they would do what France does with Monaco.

I do know though, that La Liga rules state that the only non-Spanish clubs allowed to participate in the Spanish leagues are Andorran clubs.

I guess if they did leave they could play in Ligue 1. Wouldn't mind seeing Barca and PSG square off a few times a year.

Personally I think it would kind of be like the Monaco situation where it is technically in its own sovereign nation but play in La Liga. Barca relies on La Liga and La Liga on Barca too much for it to be any other way

I don't know, the butt hurt from rest of Nation, especially from the Government in Madrid would be big.

And the more it would move forward, the worse the butt hurt gets.

Barca has already come out and said they've been offered a spot to stay in La Liga if this happens

My guess is they would work something out like the big Welsh clubs do with England. They'd have their own FA and lower leagues but Barcelona, Espanyol, Girona, etc. would stay in the Spanish Leagues.

If The Spanish FA tried to lick them out, the French would jump at the chance to get them in.

Yeah, no way La Liga kicks out any of the big Catalonian clubs, and certainly not Barca. They don't want to lose all that revenue. It'll be like a Monaco situation.

I do think an independent Catalonia is far more likely to happen soon than the Scotland referendum was a few years ago. A lot of Catalonians are determined to make it happen. Will be interesting to watch it unfold.
