I am still confused why it should have been a penalty. The defender obviously kicked the ball before the tackle which I always thought made the tackle legitimate. If he hadn't kicked the ball, how could the ball have went off on that trajectory?

They showed a replay where it looked like the Iranian mishit the ball and Zabaleta only got the man.

It was a call that could go either way. I'm not surprised the ref couldn't really see it, but I was surprised he didn't call it.
