bob wanted us to attack more in the 2nd half. he put in a better attacking formation, and we looked 10x better
he has been playing with a 4-3-3 (or whatever variation thereof). central midfield is our strongest position by far. to get our best players on the field, that would be what he has to do.
problems:
aside from agudelo and maybe chandler or jones, all of our players have grown up playing a 4-4-2. it is not going to be an easy change. plus, with holden, we probably look a lot better going forward in a 4-5-1, anyway.
additionally, in the first half, spector and boca were pinned back/wouldn't get forward. donovan and dempsey had a hard time moving to support altidore, and when out wide, had no choice but to play it centrally.
wrt the 4-4-2, we really only have/had one striker that we could trust to play at a reasonably high level. as well as agudelo has been playing, he has played <10 games as a professional. it's a hard choice to throw him out there in a game like that.
as pitiful as the first half was, it was better than bob getting lazy and throwing fricking robbie findley out there in a 4-4-2. the time to experiment is during friendlies. we are playing some really, really good teams, and we should have a better idea of what we have after those games are played.
now, if bob is having to make changes like that during the gold cup, burn the house down.

I was a bit disappointed in Bradley at times tonight. His passing still is his biggest weakness. I think he was fine in his comfortable "destroyer" role, butI don't really like having to rely on him creating in the middle. especially when partnered with the equally defensive-minded Edu or Jones.

The sight of Charlie Davies just running towards him, made Chad Marshall fall down last week. He's just not international quality.
Very true. I think he'd still be a better option then Gooch tonight. My whole point was that some of the defenders had a horrible horrible game.
Eric Lichaj is a good available player too. It'll be interesting to see how he turns out. I'd like to see him with the first team with AV.

I thought he was easily our best defender tonight. I think he was uncomfortable with the ARG pressure and he rushed his passes. He made a TON of great tackles tho.

For that matter, I bet we see Sacha Stache on Wednesday as our playmaking midfielder. It's basically do or die for the player with the best WAG in our pool.
I think your right as Bob has always had a Sacha boner since coaching him at Chivas USA but I'd really like to see Mix or Feilhaber given a game as the playmaker. Until Sacha is playing more regularly at Anderlecht I'd rather Bob give other players a chance.

I understand the lack of love for Feilhaber but I think in the past he's played very well next to Bradley in the middle. Yes, I know hes playing in the Danish 2nd division but he is more creative than any of our other CM options (with Stu out injured), who are all very defensive. Benny hasn't gotten a run out in the middle for the national team in a while and I just think with Holden out he should get a chance.

It's the brazilian in him. I don't know I just never really liked watching him. too many turnovers I guess. I expected to see him in the 2nd half, however.
