He wants to start following soccer (inspired by the USWNT and one miss Alex Morgan)

He needs help 'becoming a fan' and choosing a team

No better time to become a fan, with MLS playoffs coming up and European league play about to start..

you mentioned that you felt you were obligated to root for teams around your area.. since BR has no team, and the MLS is still a young league, you wont catch any flack for choosing whatever team you want..

im still torn between FC Dallas, NYRB, and a couple of others..

Soccer is a great sport to follow, because with so many European leagues, you can follow several teams without much conflict of interest..

Adopt bayern Munich for a good time. They get good coverage on goltv and espn3. Goltv is in the sports pack which is $4 a mo w cox. There are only about 4 of us on the board, but we are all pretty cool and would love a new fan to help out. Classy team, in a classy league, in a classy nation.

he has never followed soccer, so it may be a good idea to provide a little info about the teams you suggest.. League, location, rival, players, etc..

You mentioned Houston in the thread. Follow them. They're really hot right now.

Pick you out a Premier League team to follow. Just not Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea. Way too many of them on here.

are a lot of these games on regular channels that come with the sports package or do you need special soccer packages to catch them?

ESPN 2 will have a few this year. You may or may not have Fox Soccer Channel.

Fulham bandwagon has room.

FSC, GolTV, ESPN and (hopefully) beinSport will give you everything you need.

you can always come here for game information also.. there are game threads for nearly every big MLS match, and nearly all EPL and big European matches.. people arent assholes here about asking where to view either..

ESPN and Fox Soccer Channel play a ton of English (Barclay's) Premier League games..

They both also carry a lot of MLS games now..

They were the top team in some MLS Power Rankings I was looking at earlier today.

you dont need special soccer packages, but you may need to have 'sports packages' that usually come with NFLRZ, ESPNu, etc..

what provider do you have?

Not most and the second game of last night's DH was on ESPN2.

I buy MLS Live but since you may not be committed to that yet, you can catch pretty much every game on a pirated stream ... firstrowsports.eu, atdhenet.tv, wiziwig.eu, justin.tv, usagoals.com

European leagues can be seen on other channels and you can catch a lot of EPL games on FSC, ESPN2, and ESPN3.com.

for leauges that louisiana doesnt have a team in i try to latch on to the closest texas team. the only way i can really get into a sport is if i have a team. when i want to get into mlb i adopt the astros.

And it's NBC Sports Network, not regular NBC.
