If they are in South Africa then they are probably ardent fans of the US national team. Just because you don't feel a sense of nationalism doesn't mean they don't.

Hasn't there been a popular pic around here of a UGA girl crying after the LSU/UGA game? It happens in anything.

The best way to explain it is this. They love that team so much that if you compared them to LSU fans it would be like comparing LSU fans to a high school team. And I don't mean Permian or some bad arse high school. I mean just some random, joe blow school.

This event happens every four years...this game was a do-or-die game. To score in the final minute of a 90+ minute game to advance was amazing...It was Emotional Patriotism.

the fact that the refs kept srewing us over.. and we still overcome all that garbage just makes you even greater appreciate this team and what they have done..

down 2-0.. to fight back and actually have that win taken away from us.. then to pull this out in the last minute.. just unreal. i didn't cry tho..

and i agree crying over an england tie is pretty bad..

You're right...If I'm from a poor African country, my team's success at the World Cup will just inspire me to have a better way of life

Should they not feel sad if their team loses? Should they not be happy, even to the point of tears, if their team wins?

Or maybe you can find comfort/joy/sanctuary in a sport rather than dwelling on misery.

No dude, don't you realize that they have nothing to live for? They are poor, and basically subhuman.

It wasn't after the England game. It was during the Slovenia game where we came back from 2-0 down at halftime. Pretty emotional moment.

that was after a very late goal to tie it up not after the tie. Either way I was laughing at them too.

Bu some people just have an irrational connection/love for certain things. And it's a bit much imo.

But after the goal today I looked around at the bar I was at a saw a number of grown men (some I never would have expected to be soccer fans) wiping their eyes. Including myself.

Pathetic...then what's the excuse for Americans crying then...we have the best quality of life of any country in the history of mankind

Because they care about their team and country enough to fly 3,000 miles to see them play in one of the largest and most prestigious sporting events in the world?
