Can we talk about FIFA as an organization?

Because I'm already bitter and depressed...
FIFA to me is an organization that reeks of corruption, mismanagement, and just shite in general. Among the many things:
-Horrific refereeing decisions. Penalties given to floppers, completely nonsensical amounts of stoppage time added, far too liberal with yellow cards...
-The absolutely retarded yellow card accumulation rule. The World Cup is short. There's no reason players should be suspended for entire games just because they get a couple of yellows which seem to be given for a tap on the shoulder these days.
-The fact that the U.S. had to travel far more than other teams and play on fewer days' rest.
-Giving the World Cup to fricking Qatar
the list goes on...

Which is the reason you will see ratings in the U.S. plummet between now and the end of the tournament.

This has been the greatest WC I have watched in my precious time on this planet. (1986 Mexico was the first I understood the implications and had my soccer digest brackets ready to fill out while watching strictly Spanish language feeds on obscure cable channels.)
Nothing will ever be perfect. When you are trying to incorporate, pretty much every country in the world, into an organization, I think they do an "ok" job. I dont like the Russia or Qatar decisions and I think that at least one of those will be changed.
What a great sport. What a great spectacle. Im just glad to see the growth between trying to pencil in my group standings in my soccer digest in 1986 watching Portuguese and Spanish broadcasts and where we are today.

As strange as it sounds, the refereeing has actually improved. They really need to do something about diving in the box (perhaps video review like NCAA bball does on technical fouls), but otherwise I haven't seen many bad calls.
The pinnacle for me was the 2009 Confederations Cup when we had three different players given red cards for normal fouls (after the same thing happening in the 2006 WC). At least we are past that stage.

That was a very dark time. Im not sure anyone would argue that. Hell, UEFA and CONCACAF were threatening to "do something" about "things". What they were going to do and what those things were are a subject for another topic but its hard to argue that whatever that "was" things improved.
