I was on edge after that call. Thank God for the crossbar. Both sides are pretty even, New Zealand has some quality. Gonna be a tough match. The last thing we needed was a PK.

19 year old centre half from LSU (#3 Meghan Lee) is starting for New Zealand. Nice

Yeah, it's been a good match so far, I think. The tension between the two sides and the manager situation has made for some entertaining footy. NZ wants to desperately beat their old manager and Canada wants to beat their manager's former side for him.

Nil-Nil draw. Probably lucky to get it too. Thanks for the missed PK, Kiwis.

Thought we played pretty well though, overall. Top of the group

So, Ecuador just scored their first ever World Cup goal. The problem is that they scored into their own net. The Swiss have not scored a goal in any World Cup either, yet now they lead. I love it.

Yeah, that was pretty bad.

The commentators are treating Ecuador like the 5 year old kid who dropped his ice cream after that penalty wasn't called.

I'm not even sure it was a penalty. Live, I was skeptical, and the replays only made me more so. It looked like the Ecuadoran player just threw herself under the Swiss defender. Just because you have the ball doesn't mean the other players have to move for you. The Ecuadoran initiated the contact, and the Swiss defender did not extend an arm into our make a blatant push.

Fair enough, I didn't think it was blatant or anything, but it was questionable. I was okay with the no-call though. The ref probably saw exactly what you did.

Not sure if insulting me or complimenting the ref...

So the knockout stage is set. At first, I thought the US side was the tougher....but not so sure now. They will more than likely face China in the quarterfinals then probably the Germany/Sweden winner. Being in the top half helps a little with not having to face Germany, Sweden or France until the Semifinals.

China vs Cameroon
USA vs Columbia

Germany vs Sweden
France vs South Korea

Brazil vs Australia
Japan vs Netherlands

Norway vs England
Canada vs Switzerland

I think I'd rather play Canada than Germany right now.

Obviously....but Brazil, Japan and Norway are on the other side of that bracket also. I think the Canadians have their hands full with the Swiss.

I'd be genuinely surprised if we beat Germany.
