From my experience of living there, it's a mixed bag. Americans get a bad rap because they are loud and obnoxious, but Parisians are pretty stuck up so that is why you get Americans thinking that the French are snobs. Americans go to Paris. The two are at odds. See the problem? Most Americans aren't going to travel to other parts of France for the most part. Especially in the south the people are very kind and extremely welcoming. The kids I taught at the high school in Marseille fricking loved America. It was unreal. So many of them wore US flag scarves or shirts or had US flag iPhone covers. Most of them practically dreamed of living in the US one day. They will make fun of the US all day long for being fat, religious, dumb, etc what have you, but they envy the shite out of us.
