According to this video, the Birmingham was the top TV market for the USA v Mexico qualifier. Looked around and they have a website set up. I don't know if they are trying to get an MLS team started or just a pro team like Silverbacks or Railhawks.
I never really considered Birmingham as an option, but I guess why not? Their only competition for attention would be the college teams which really exist in a different world, and some double A baseball.
