That U10 team moves the ball better than my over 30 team.

enormous, redundant scouting networks, and they play a numbers game

it's an extremely inexact science

e.g. allegedly from lee sharpe:

quote:

"A few of us including Robbo, are watching the Youth team and we ask the boss which ones are staying, going etc. etc. So he points to them one by one, "he's staying" he's going." Robbo says, "What about the little Ginger lad?" fergie - "Well, we're not sure. He's got loads of ability, but he's not the quickest, and we're not sure if he's a striker or a midfielder. he can't tackle either. We'll most likely let him go." 2 minutes later, Scholes runs from a deep position exposing the two centre halves, goes through both with a shimmy and dummy, feints to shoot past the keeper, who then commits himself, and gets beaten by chip over a flailing hand. Robbo turns to the boss and says, "you don't know fricking much about players, do you boss?".

For those of you who are interested, the below article has MUCH more information about Ben's trial with Barça before he signed. It's a great read.

Very cool. Hopefully he kicks Busquets in the fleshy patch where his nuts should be and shows them how to ball.

Are you going to use this line in one of your articles?

I'm actually enjoying reading a lot of stuff on that site.

His article about the Dempsey 'world class' myth is dead on imo.

It's a quality site, for sure. Sometimes the "America sucks at soccer" motif gets a little tiring, but they do offer some great suggestions about how to improve the system as a whole, and they have a nice range of articles that are well-written and thought-provoking.

The author of the blog is too condescending for my taste. He has a much higher opinion of himself than he should.

yeah but like he says, I'd much rather read that, than someone who glosses over all of our shortcomings.

I've said it for awhile that I truly think we lack any sort of a style and that holds us back now and will continue to do so. Hanging on to someone like Bradley only further stalls our development.

This guy probably isn't for everybody, but for me it just feels like he's writing what I think. I do see what you're saying with the condescending tone though.

See I wouldn't describe it as that. I'd say it's more of a America sucks at advancing as a soccer power, which I agree with completely.

He must like Benny just because he was born in Brazil. There is no other explanation.

I agree with a lot of what he says. Dempsey isn't one of the best 50 players in the world, but there's no need to try to embarrass him in the process of disproving it. He seems to have a lot of knowledge, there's a way to portray it without trying to come off as an elitist. I don't think Bradley is a terrible coach, I think he works with what he has. The style you want has to start with the youth teams, the U-17 team on has to be trying to teach a certain way. When they're full national team, it's too late to try to teach them styl.

the only thing I didn't like about the Dempsey article (and he's not a top 50 player so I agree with the premise) is his list of 30 players in the EPL. All 30 are from the big clubs which is a pretty good sign that he's just a typical American bandwagon fan that only pays attention to the big clubs. Plus Kalou's on there

agreed. Only think I can think is that this was one of those reactionary articles that is written out of annoyance. So the message probably gets washed over because he's writing with emotion. That's how I read it at least.

Have you ever heard him say anything about completely overhauling the way we play, starting at the youth levels? I never have.

The ideas he posts about someone like Bielsa uprooting the whole system with the future in mind really interests me. Of course it would have to be done by someone who truly knows what he's doing. The lack of forward progress is what bothers me most about Bob.

Sure it's fun to whip Canada and 'shoot' for beating Mex in the Gold Cup, but it definitely feels like that's our ceiling.

he likes La Liga more than EPL from what I can tell, but I think them all being from big clubs was the point of his list.

This is why I want Jogie Lowe to be our next head coach. He completely revamped Germany's entire system and look where they're at now. It isn't Bob's job to handle the youth teams though, Sunil Gulati is fricking that up.
