I am playing in a fantasy league for EURO's that my neighbor set up. No cost, but the winner gets a kit of his choice. No salary cap, 4-3-3 but you can only take one player from each country. Right now I have a lineup but need a defender from the following countries:Greece, Croatia, Ireland, Italy, Poland or Ukraine. Right now my lineup looks like this:
GK:Cech
Def-Zhirkov, Agger, Ramos, ????
MF-Ozil, Ribery, Ashley Young
FWD-Ibrahimivic, RvP, Ronaldo

Thanks in advance, and I'll leave you with a little gift for your troubles.

You'd be in if it was my league. It's only people that he knows personally. I'm just wondering why there is no cost and I get a kit if I win?

What about Maggio? If Italy goes to 3 at the back as rumored, wouldn't he be the one pushing forward?

ETA: Should I take a Greek due to their defensive play and weak group? Remember this is fantasy not real life.

Yes he would.

The only catch is that Abate from AC Milan may play some minutes in Maggio's stead in the 4-diamond-2

Italy v Spain and Italy v Croatia may have more goals than people expect.

Of course, Ireland will play a vintage catenaccio.

I would actually reconsider the Ronaldo pick unless you think that Portugal will get out of their group.

Make sure you get a player from the eight squads you think will advance to the knockout stages.

Also, what is the scoring system, so I can see what positions are valued the most?

Richard Dunne of Ireland: always good for a goal on a corner, which of the goals he scores on is always a question.

I can transfer Ronaldo out after group. Then we can have 3 from each remaining country. Scoring is fairly basic. Def and keeps 5 pts for clean sheets. Goals are 5 points for everyone. Assists get 3 points.

Ah ok. If transfers after group play are unlimited, then definitely keep Ronaldo in.

If Muller starts full-time and is listed under midfield, then I would consider him over Ozil cause he can score more goals. Just a thought.

I might even consider removing Ibrahimovic for Lewandowski who will probably score more goals in a weaker group.

I don't know exactly how scoring works as I've never played fantasy but an Irish defender like Dunne may be a pretty decent idea.

They are going to bunker like madmen and neither Spain nor Italy are particularly good at breaking that down with their problems of width. And, if they get a goal, the chance it comes from a Dunne on a set piece may be almost 50/50.

Typically a defender gets 2-3 points more for scoring a goal than a forward does for accomplishing the same feat.

Defenders who can score on set pieces and play on teams that record clean sheets are the most valuable assets on a fantasy team, outside of a prolific striker that averages a goal a game (i,e. Messi, Van Persie, Ronaldo).

Robert Huth of Stoke is always one of the best fantasy defenders, despite being a fairly mediocre player in real life.

Yeah, but reading the scoring, it doesn't say anything about defenders getting more points for scoring. Says all goals are worth 5.

Well just thought I'd give an update. I'm up 14 points, which in this league is huge with the finals left to play. Due to transfer rules, I will only have 5 players going in the finals. They are Casillas, Ramos, Silva, Pirlo and Balotelli. I don't know how anyone could make up that amount without any of those guys being involved. Hmmmmmm, should I go with the New Chelsea shirt with Hazard on the back or go with the good ol' Balotelli Italy shirt?

I'd go with this. I feel like you would get more use out of a Chelsea kit.
