Well in the MLS model what did you expect
It would be one thing if MLS was one of the top tier leagues in the world and the players had major leverage bc people want to watch them.
But they don’t and the owners are in it not for the prospect of making MLS awesome and development of American soccer.

You think the Glazers or Roman Abromavich are in it for the prospect of making the EPL awesome and developing English soccer?

Apples to oranges
Such a dishonest and lazy comparison
Par for the course tho
At least those two owners try to and have won, even if they have other motives
MLS owners can do jack shite and get that equally shared revenue

This is basically most of American sports ownership
It’s an investment not a team to them

Taylor Twellman
@TaylorTwellman
While things were very intense over the last few days, there has been a major breakthrough between the @MLSPA and @MLS league office. “Cautiously optimistic” as 1 more detail is being discussed and pending the new agreement/CBA being ratified, a lockout should be avoided.

Thats good news
a lockout would be devastating for MLS and soccer in this country

Jeff Carlisle
@JeffreyCarlisle
Multiple sources tell me that #MLS owners have backed down on having force majeure tied to attendance. Will now look like NBA version. That is a major obstacle overcome. #MLSPA

Full player vote will take place this afternoon, I'm told. Other sources aren't as certain on the new proposal passing as the one I quoted above, but the general tone is pretty optimistic.

MLSPA has ratified a new CBA. MLS is a go for Orlando.

Excellent. It’s gonna be a weird season, but I’m down for any sports at this point. Happy to get the NBA and NHL playoffs, too.
The tricky part for MLS will be scheduling the games that take place after this Orlando tournament. Some cities with MLS teams will be ready to allow fans, and some may not. It’ll be a very fluid schedule this season.
I’m interested to see what happens with the MLB season now. There will be a ton of pressure on the MLB to not be the only significant American sports league to not play in 2020. That’s terrible optics.
I think the MLB owners may have pissed off the players’ union to a point where we won’t see baseball for a while. No way the players agree to the current proposal. They’ve somehow pissed off both the low-earning minor leaguers and high-earning superstars. Rob Manfred is a terrible commissioner.
